Lacquer Basic Care Guide
Care & Cleaning of a Lacquer Finished Table
Catalyzed Lacquer is an extremely durable finish; however, it is not impervious. We still recommend taking care and cleaning with caution, as with any wood furniture product. Below are some guidelines to help you preserve the quality of the finish.
Wiping & Washing
It is important to take proper care of this piece of furniture to ensure it lasts for years to come. We recommend wiping with a damp cloth using mild soap and water or a natural-based cleaning solution. Most standard cleaning solutions contain alcohol or ammonia, which, over time, can eat through the finish.
Common furniture cleaners such as Pledge furniture polish may actually damage the topcoat of your furniture. Furniture polish leaves a glossy, often uneven residue on the surface. We recommend avoiding furniture polish on our custom furniture pieces, as these low-sheen finishes are difficult to recover.
Never use acetone-based chemicals (nail polish remover) on or near your table. Acetone will soften the finish and can cause permanent damage if left untreated.
Water Marks & Spills
Water marks and spills are generally well protected against with our lacquer finish, as we also apply a vinyl sealer beneath the lacquer coats. However, we still recommend wiping up all spills as quickly as possible. Alcoholic liquids are more likely to leave rings.
Use coasters and placemats when dining at the table, and always use trivets or hot pads for high-temperature items.
Scuffs & Scratches
Scuffs, light scratches, and small dings are inevitable as your table grows with your family. While minor wear tells a story, please take care to avoid deep surface scratches. Sharp utensils, abrasives, and pointed objects (such as ballpoint pens) can scratch or dent the surface. Use a writing pad when writing on the table.
Your table is a living piece of history with character that reflects its life in your home. Embrace its story and allow it to continue growing with your family.
